The Role

TenOaks Energy Advisors is seeking a Geologist to work alongside the technical and commercial A&D marketing teams. This role will contribute to the geoscience function of upstream A&D evaluation with a goal to generate high-quality geologic analysis and technical materials to be presented to the client and counterparties in support of TenOaks/RedOaks advisory services.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

•    Will work closely with the current subsurface team and engineers to assist in divestiture mandates and will be expected to integrate into the subsurface team with a collaborative mindset to help strengthen the technical team.

•    Perform technical evaluations of assets - including subsurface analysis and associated offset analogue work, geologic studies, and key performance drivers in support of sale-side mandates.

•    Responsible for collaborating closely with clients to better understand the assets, present data in a clear and consistent manner, and communicating deliverables while maintaining strict quality controls on produced materials (including slide work, maps, cross-sections, type logs, analysis, etc.).

•    Will be expected to leverage experience to ensure the technical accuracy of all geologic and subsurface related material produced and expected to present/defend material in front of clients and counterparties.


Qualifications, Required Knowledge, & Abilities

•    5 years of relevant oil and gas experience working for an operator or in A&D Banking as a Geologist with a commercially oriented ability to understand economic fundamentals associated with oil and gas development.

•    Direct experience performing geologic analysis across 3 oil and gas basins and multiple reservoirs.

•    Proficiency in Petra Software – 3 years experience performing subsurface evaluations using PETRA – including log interpretation, mapping, and project/database management.

•    Background in reservoir characterization – including experience identifying and exploitation of conventional / unconventional oil and gas reservoirs (knowledge of log analysis, petrophysics, and volumetrics.

•    Ability to generate high-quality maps and exhibits with a design sense to construct clean materials in PowerPoint.

•    Working proficiency in GIS (QGIS / ArcGIS) — shapefile creation and editing, joining and validating spatial and tabular data, and producing deal-quality map exhibits.

•    Familiarity with commercial industry databases (e.g., Enverus, S&P Global / IHS) and public / regulatory sources (e.g., the Texas Railroad Commission), with the ability to manage and analyze large datasets quickly through Spotfire, Excel, or similar tools.

•    Ability to present and defend geologic analyses to large groups, and to work directly with clients and their multidisciplinary geoscience teams on highly confidential evaluations.

•    Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines in a professional manner while working independently with sound judgment and communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

•    Experience with additional mapping / geoscience software (GeoGraphix, Kingdom, Transform, Petrel, Canvas, etc.).

•    Scripting and workflow automation (e.g., Python, arcpy / geopandas) to streamline repeatable GIS and data tasks.

•    Working proficiency in GIS (QGIS / ArcGIS) — shapefile creation and editing, joining and validating spatial and tabular data, and producing deal-quality map exhibits.

•    Maintains professional society membership and seeks to serve in visible and/or leadership roles in the local community and national organizations.


Education & Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree with a degree in geology from an accredited University is required.

•    Master’s Degree with an emphasis in geology from an accredited University is preferred.

•    5 years of relevant industry experience working as a Geologist (must be upstream oil & gas or A&D Banking focused).

•    Relevant A&D experience is preferred, however is not required.

•    No securities licensing is required for this role — the SIE, Series 79, and Series 63 are not a condition of employment.
