Manages TVA’s gas assets within the Primary System Operations Center (PSOC) or Regional Operations Center (ROC), working real-time with a multi-organizational management team to assure TVA’s power generation and transmission systems are operated in a reliable and economic manner. Makes economic and technical decisions regarding power generation and determines the amount of energy and reactive power that will be provided by a given unit. Collaborates with other PSOC managers on changes in the real-time generation schedules to bridge the gap between forecasted and actual power supply and demand. Decisions made can impact TVA bottom line between $50K and $1M per day - depending on market conditions. May perform duties on rotating shifts and is subject to call-outs in order to meet TVA needs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for the remote dispatch activities of gas assets to ensure reliable and efficient asset performance . Responsible for directing plant technicians with any changes in plant generation when the automatic computer system (ACS) is not functioning correctly.
2. Responsible for determining real time generation response to TRO/BA for generation changes, voltage control, condensing units and AGC.
3. Monitors plant alarms and responds appropriately based on priority. Responsible for making proper notifications including implementing the call out procedure associated with plant events.
4. Ensures the safe and reliable real-time dispatch of gas assets by monitoring the generating units, setting operational limits, developing contingency plans, and coordinating plant operations.
5. Responsible for ensuring daily gas generation schedule adherence. This is accomplished by the coordination between GDCC, CDO, Gas Operations, Fuels & Hedging, TRO-PSS and TRO-BA. This includes any generation requirements that fulfill Gas Operation’s mission regarding AGC, starting and stopping units, spinning reserves, supplemental reserves, synchronous condense activities and outages.
6. During normal and emergency conditions, has the authority to take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions. Such actions shall include removing units from service to support GO Regulatory or Statutory requirements or to protect the safety of equipment and personnel. These actions are performed without obtaining approval from higher level personnel.
7. This position will serve as the Functional Supervisor of plant activities during the absence of the plant manager, and is responsible for the coordination of activities at gas plants during after hours for emergency or any abnormal operations until that responsibility is assumed by Gas Production Management or work ceases.
8. Responds to gas generating plant emergencies, unexpected generator trips or any sudden load changes to maintain generation schedules. Will respond to the event by following standard operating practices in accordance with GO requirements.
9. Uses real time power system status to determine opportunities to maximize value of gas generation (including canceling or delaying a scheduled outage; generation increases to offset higher priced TVA Assets; and increasing or reducing generation for use during more economical time). Makes dispatch decisions based on current market conditions. Decisions may impact TVA’s bottom line up to $1M or more per day.
10. Evaluates, coordinates, and approves timing of all maintenance outages and special operations activities resulting in the removal of generating units from service and return of those units to back into service for all gas automated plants. Will coordinate the timing and approval of unit outages, special operations request and any unit testing with GO and TRO-BA. Communicates any forced outage with GO and TRO-BA in a timely manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — A working knowledge of turbine generator characteristics and capabilities. Knowledge of the trade-off relationships and system values of active and reactive power and those factors that influence the need to change. Demonstrate ability to direct the work and schedule personnel. Must have strong communication, leadership, and team building skills and possess sound judgment. Must have thorough knowledge of TVA Safety Procedures, Standardized Maintenance Procedures, and organizational procedures.
Certification/License, etc —Must be able to obtain and maintain FFD program Integrity Clearance. Candidate is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position access requirements and essential job functions.
