Job Summary

This position reports to the Central Region Principal Architect, or others as directed. This position serves as a project architect, performing responsible professional work as a member of a design team engaged in the planning and design for entire land use or assigned features of various types of buildings and structures located in metro and regional areas, transmission and generating sites.

This position personally performs or directs the investigations and formulation of design criteria; conception of architectural design of buildings and structures; design development and the preparation of final layouts, final design drawings, and specifications for architectural material and equipment. Programs and designs for client functional requirements and goals by interview, observation and survey and interprets those into designs that meet the overall goals and direction of TVA. Reviews and formulates programs and design requirements for assigned projects; prepares and coordinates design criteria and guidelines in absence of precedent criteria or as assigned. Responsible for coordinating technical decisions required in performing these assignments with other design teams/projects and divisions and for the review and appraisal of completed work. This position ensures that appropriate reviews have been coordinated with all TVA internal experts, such as health and safety, energy, environmental, sustainable, projects and operations support and coordinates resolutions to noted issues by the TVA internal experts within each phase of work. Completed work is subject to general review by the design team lead or others as directed.

Prepares TVA facility design standards and guidelines, as directed, suitable for general or specific application by others engaged in the provision of facilities design services or in facilities management, operation or maintenance services.

Supervision Received

Supervision is provided by the department manager and/or the appointed team lead, and are generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines, and work priorities. Incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision.

Skills And Proficiencies (May Be Job Or Organization Specific)

A thorough knowledge of the principles, theories, practices, methods, and procedure of architecture, particularly as related to design for office facilities. As well as knowledge of the interrelationships among all design disciplines and among the specialties within the facilities management industry and with other TVA departments and offices.

Understanding of TVA policies, procedures, and organizations necessary to perform job.

Knowledge of regulatory agency (e.g., NRC) requirements related to the specific job.

A thorough knowledge and ability to perform the more difficult work of this class such as preparing initial studies and designs for a wide range of buildings, developing contract drawings and specifications, preparing estimates and schedules, comparing bids, recommending awards and handling contracts with other divisions and manufacturers covering the full range of procurement procedures.

A thorough knowledge of and skill in documentation principals and practices related to manual and CAD preparation of graphic and written documents required for communication of architectural design features and for contracting for procurements, installations, and construction of facilities and related equipment.

Ability to clearly communicate, persuade or motivate persons not under one’s direct supervision toward a point of view which meets TVA guidelines, standards, and goals with minimum assistance.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent With Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

A B.S. Degree in architecture or comparable related field of study is required.

At least 5 years of experience in the architectural profession.

Architectural Registration Is Required. NCARB Certification Is Preferred.

Must have a working knowledge of CAD programs. AutoCAD knowledge is preferred.
