Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Director of Imaging, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the administration of theranostics and the operation of a hybrid PET/CT scanner to perform diagnostic CT exams as well as PET/CT imaging according to the physician’s orders and the radiologist’s guidelines. Follows rules and regulations established by the NRC and state-licensing agencies in the proper method of handling radioactive isotopes and the provision of quality patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Delivers theranostic treatments in a safe, effective manner while appropriately handling, storing , and disposing of radioactive materials.
- Order and record radiopharmaceuticals for theranostic treatments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of PET/CT cross-sectional anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation protection concepts.
- Measures, administers, and records isotope dosage following established departmental procedures.
- Follows radiation safety techniques in usage and disposal of radioactive isotopes in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Explains procedures to patients and addresses their concerns.
- Orients and mentors new staff members.
- Insures proper administration of oral and intravenous contrast material when appropriate.
- Demonstrates outstanding customer service and displays appropriate behavior.
- Performs all duties in accordance with Tennessee Oncology Policies and Procedures Manual and supplemental procedure established for its Imaging Centers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited or registered school of Radiologic Technology required and/or graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology, or equal years of working experience in Nuclear Medicine and/or PET.
- NMTCB certification or ARRT certification in Nuclear Medicine required
- Minimum one year Nuclear Medicine work experience required. May waive with Director of Imaging approval.
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing and able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment assisted up to 50 lbs.
