The TDOC Special Agent position is assigned to the Office of Investigations and Conduct (OIC) , which is responsible for the pursuit and apprehension of absconders under the jurisdiction of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC). The Special Agent possesses statewide law enforcement authority to conduct both criminal and administrative investigations, detain and arrest based on offenses related to TDOC.

The TDOC Special Agent position is assigned to the Office of Investigations and Conduct (OIC) , which is responsible for the pursuit and apprehension of absconders under the jurisdiction of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC). The Special Agent possesses statewide law enforcement authority to conduct both criminal and administrative investigations, detain and arrest based on offenses related to TDOC.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit Community Supervision offices to serve outstanding criminal warrants and summons.
- Prepares affidavits for criminal search warrants and or administrative subpoenas.
- Make arrest.
- Assist in other law enforcement agencies by providing information and assisting in criminal investigations.
- Appear in court to give testimony.
- Must be able to respond immediately to major crimes and incidents, including unexpected overtime and potential overnight trips.
- On call 24 hours / 7 days a week; nights / weekends / holidays / overnight stays
- Prepare clear and accurate written reports and be proficient with Microsoft Office
- In addition, the individual assigned to this position must be able to respond to major crimes and incidents on short notice and be able to be on call 24 hours/7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a police officer, correction, correction, or probation/parole officer.
- Tennessee POST certification is preferred.
- Those candidates that have not completed a certified law enforcement training academy must be able and willing to do so.
- Experience performing criminal investigation work in a government setting, law enforcement, professional criminal law, and/or similar related field may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
