Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Academic Programs, Assessments, and Accreditation, the Director of Digital Learning is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of digital learning initiatives that support student success, instructional best practices, and institutional goals. This position collaborates with academic deans, faculty, instructional designers, and other stakeholders to assist in the development and enhancement of online courses at NeSCC. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of online pedagogy, instructional design best practices, and emerging educational technologies with a passion for advancing excellence in online education.

Job Duties

• Lead the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional design standards, processes, and practices that support the vision, mission, and strategic plan of Northeast State Online.
• Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Academic Programs, Assessments, and Accreditation to advance excellence in online and technology-enhanced instruction.
• Oversee instructional design services, collaborate with faculty to assure quality, accessibility, and the implementation of best practices in digital learning.
• Evaluate instructional technologies and provide recommendations for innovative solutions that will enhance teaching, learning, and operational effectiveness.
• Use data and assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of digital learning initiatives and guide continuous improvement.
• Coordinate workshops, webinars, and individual consultations focused on instructional design best practices.
• Collaborate with the Coordinator of Distance Education and Digital Accessibility to promote institutional standards for digital accessibility, ensuring that online learning environments, instructional materials, and educational technologies support equitable access and comply with federal and state requirements.
• Serve on institutional committees and collaborate across Academic Affairs to support innovation, assessment, accreditation, and student success.
• Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including experience supporting online learning, instructional design, or faculty development.
• Demonstrated experience with a learning management system (D2L, Canvas, Blackboard).
• Knowledge of quality standards and best practices for online teaching, course design, and digital pedagogy.
• Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards including ADA and WCAG.
• Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in higher education, including emerging instructional uses, ethical considerations, and academic integrity best practices.
• Experience designing and facilitating professional development for faculty or staff.
• Ability to analyze data, develop reports, and use assessment results to support continuous improvement.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience leading instructional design, digital learning, or educational technology initiatives in a higher education setting.
• Experience administering or supporting D2L Brightspace and Ellucian Banner or comparable learning management and student information systems.
• Experience in community college administration.
