Summary

To reduce unplanned downtime of manufacturing operations by supporting the preventive maintenance initiative on machinery and tooling, including, but not limited to troubleshooting and performing time-sensitive repairs. Effectively coach and assist manufacturing team in working knowledge of changeovers and Autonomous (Self Directed) Maintenance and 5S.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Set up and operate drill press to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly using proper holding fixturing.
  • Set up and operate conventional or CNC machines such as lathes, mills, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
  • Select correct metals from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness, durability and heat tolerance; for best application of use.
  • Lay out material for machining using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, height gage, gage blocks, V-blocks, angle plate and rulers.
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products.
  • Press bushings or pins in or out of parts and assemblies with hydraulic or arbor press.
  • File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts for proper fit in both the tool room and on the production floor.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Remove broken fasteners and repair damaged threads in equipment on either the tool room or the production floor.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Fabricate various tooling per print specifications

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Certification in State or Federally authorized Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, or equivalent preferred
  • 5 years or more tool room machining using mill, lathe, grinders, drill press and arbor or hydraulic press.
  • 4 year manufacturing experience, 5 years preferred.
  • Maintain licensing for fork truck and man lift equipment.
  • Proficient welding MIG, TIG and Arc preferred
  • Should understand and apply principles of Safe Rigging fundamentals and techniques

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions in English.
  • Must possess good math skills.
  • Ability to work in a team building environment with other employees.
  • Ability to work on own without direct supervision, as well as follow directions and job assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to machine operators, team leaders, line leaders, engineering, maintenance, quality, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and GD&T. in both Inch and Metric.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fits and finishes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of material, material properties and the ability to determine the proper material type and hardness for application.
  • Ability to use and read calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures.
  • Must possess ability to setup and program CNC equipment Mill, Lathe and Surface Grinder.
  • Ability to use both hands tools and power tools safely.
  • Understanding of lock out tag out, machine safety and MIOSHA and related safety standards.
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude skills, think logically and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess ability to keep accurate records and computer skills including MS office.

Physical Demands

  • Good hearing, listening and able to effectively communicate using North America English.
  • Standing for entire duration of a shift is normal.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds without rigging.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Good hand, fingers eye coordination to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Work Environment

  • Frequent skin exposure to chemical based fluids such as coolant, drawing compounds, lubrication oils, etc.
  • Small, cramped work space at some machines.
  • Fast paced work environment.
  • May encounter extreme heat, fumes, metal chips, odors, dirt, dust, noise, moving objects.
