JOB SUMMARY
Assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies. Bills and credits medications to patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Prepares IV mixtures according to established procedures.
- Picks up orders and medications for return from patient care areas.
- Checks areas of responsibility for outdated Medications and adequate levels of stock.
- Maintains a good working relationship with other departments.
- Fills patient medication drawers and unit dose Medication orders.
- Fills automated dispensing machines and other unit supplies.
- Makes deliveries to patient care areas.
- Enters charges and credits.
- Unpacks and stocks orders
- Prepackages bulk medication to unit dose or IV bulk products to syringes.
- Communicates effectively with coworkers to ensure understanding of customer needs and activities.
- Frequently offers assistance to others in need.
- Actively participates in team meetings and often offers suggestions on how to improve the services provided.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Adheres to scheduling requests of the department (Works weekends, no "special days off", no exceptions, unless in school).
- Adheres to the Customer Service Standards of the facility while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department and complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Utilizes computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes annual education requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean and wears identification while on duty.
- Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion and has not missed any mandatory in-services.
- Attends staff meetings annually, is responsible for information presented at monthly staff meetings that he/she is unable to attend.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; College preferred.
- Experience: 1 year of experience as hospital tech required; 2 years preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS
- CPhT and Texas Registered required; IV Certified preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Additional languages preferred.
SKILLS
- Basic computer knowledge required.
