Summary
The Design & Planning Manager is a vital contributor to the team at Tenby Development and Tenby Construction, leading the design process and executing on construction drawings for in-house development projects and design-build clients throughout Central Ohio and beyond. The Design & Planning Manager oversees the design process on a variety of commercial projects, delivering high-quality work for a rapidly growing industrial developer and construction company.
Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare detailed construction drawings and architectural plans and designs, ensuring designs comply with relevant building codes and Tenby design standards.
- Collaborate closely with Tenby development team to create design vision and strategy for each development project, primarily high-end tech-flex industrial properties.
- Complete conceptual designs for new builds, additions, and tenant buildouts while considering cost and constructability issues.
- Thoroughly review all architectural drawings to minimize design risk management, ensuring design standards, budget, schedule and operational requirements are met, all while minimizing scope creep.
- Lead the building design process from conceptual design development and code analysis through construction support, collaborating with internal development, construction, estimating, and operations teams throughout the design and construction process.
- Improve design quality, timelines, procurement strategies and materials selection to keep projects innovative and efficient
- Develop and maintain relationships with consultants for architecture, civil, structural, MEP, landscape, and specialty design services. Manage these consultants through the design, permitting, and construction processes.
- Develop 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional site and building renderings, to be used for presentations and marketing.
- Submit for permits and respond to plan review comments and corrections.
- Collaborate with the development team on zoning and entitlement efforts, as well as site analysis and site planning due diligence.
Ideal qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field.
- Licensed architect status preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the area of architectural design or related field with demonstrated experience in the commercial development industry (industrial experience preferred).
- Proficiency in design and construction management software/tools (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, 3D modeling software).
- Strong understanding of design-to-budget, constructability, and risk management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
- Results-oriented with a keen ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to manage project scope, budgets, and schedules while ensuring the highest quality standards.
- Self-starter mentality with the drive to take ownership of projects and see them through to successful completion.
- Experience with design-build projects is a plus, but not mandatory.
