What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Coordinator position at Ten Sixteeen Recovery Network?
Position Purpose: Demonstrate change in key community risk factors by leveraging the strengths of that community through local coalitions and implement effective prevention and early intervention services, in education, office and community base settings.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of a substance use prevention coalition including development, and recruitment of participants, maintaining membership, organizing and facilitating meetings, coordinating special events and sustaining communications with coalition members.
- Oversee and conduct coalition education and training, program development and coordination of any other training identified as beneficial to the community by the coalition.
- Mobilize volunteers for community awareness events and local advocacy issues.
- Implement nationally recognized model programs and deliver substance use prevention curriculum, as adopted by the agency, to ensure current evidence-based practices are being applied.
- Develop agency prevention plan per state regulations; monitor implementation, track utilization of hours, and amend as needed.
- Conduct pre- and post-testing for programs and services to demonstrate effectiveness.
- As needed, provide office-based educational programs to first-time substance use offenders (i.e. minor in possession, first DUI offense, anger management).
- Coordinate and conduct retailer education on tobacco distribution to minors, including community checks for compliance.
- Maintain timely submission of demographic and billing data as required by funding sources.
- Meet established utilization targets to fulfill the service obligations of the prevention plan and maximize the funding available through identified funders.
- Conduct routine community needs assessment with collaborative partners to ensure application of appropriate programming.
- Periodically interview key stakeholders and concerned citizens to identify community strengths and contributors to substance abuse.
- Maintain positive relationships with the various referral sources whose support is necessary for the growth and development of the organization.
- Provide technical assistance to community coalitions and workgroups.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, family studies, public health, education, or other human service field; or a nursing degree (RN or LPN) with two - five years experience.
- Must have the CPS (Certified Prevention Specialist), current CPS Development Plan, or other appropriate certification or secure it within two years of employment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
