Job Description:
Now hiring Veterinary Technicians for an emergency care center in Mars Hill Excellent opportunity for a new or experienced veterinary care specialist to provide essential services for animals and their families in Aroostook County. Full-time and part-time opportunities available; 8-hour shifts from 4:00 PM Thursday through 8 AM Monday. $21.00-$25.00/hr., depending on experience. The Veterinary Technician will be an integral part of the center's emergency care team, providing high-quality, compassionate care for patients. Responsibilities will include triage, patient monitoring, anesthesia support, surgery assistance, in-house lab work, radiology, and IV therapy. The technician will collaborate with veterinarians and clerical staff to help maintain ER readiness and contribute to building efficient protocols and a positive, team-based culture. Ideal candidates are calm under pressure, highly organized, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, with prior emergency or ICU experience preferred. Maine CVT certification a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare exam rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas for patient care.
- Assist with patient intake, including obtaining histories, weighing, and restraining animals safely.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under veterinarian guidance.
- Triage and monitor emergency patients and assist with surgeries.
- Assist in emergency response situations, such as CPR, trauma stabilization, or critical care monitoring.
- Monitor and document patient vitals, recovery progress, and clinical observations.
- Manage in-house lab work, radiology, anesthesia, and IVs.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and workspaces to maintain infection control.
- Maintain inventory of medications, supplies, and equipment; assist with ordering and restocking.
- Provide client education, including post-treatment care instructions and preventive care guidance.
- Support quality assurance initiatives, including record-keeping and compliance with protocols.
- Provide other relevant duties or assistance as needed.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Maine CVT license preferred, but candidates with prior veterinary and/or medical care experience will be considered.
- Prior emergency or ICU technician experience ideal.
- Calm under pressure, highly organized, and able to multitask effectively.
- Able to move/lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
- Post-offer background check required.
