Assistant Executive Director at Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota, Florida
Job Purpose
The Assistant Executive Director supports the Executive Director in leading the daily operations of Temple Emanu-El and advancing the temple's mission and strategic priorities. Serving as the Executive Director's primary designee, this position provides operational leadership, strengthens organizational effectiveness, and collaborates with clergy, staff, lay leaders, volunteers, and vendors to ensure excellence in all aspects of temple operations.
Position Summary
Temple Emanu-El seeks an experienced, collaborative, and highly organized professional to help oversee the administrative, operational, financial, and human resource functions of one of the largest Reform congregations on Florida’s west coast. The ideal candidate is a proactive, solutions-oriented leader who exercises sound judgment, maintains confidentiality, and thrives in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work.
Essential Responsibilities
· Leadership & Administration
o Serve as the Executive Director's primary designee, as assigned.
o Supervise assigned staff and promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and accountability.
o Assist with implementation of Board policies, strategic initiatives, and organizational priorities.
o Foster positive relationships with clergy, staff, volunteers, members, and community partners.
· Operations
o Assist in overseeing administrative operations.
o Improve operational systems, procedures, and workflows.
o Support operational logistics for meetings and special events.
· Finance & Human Resources
o Assist with budgeting, financial oversight, purchasing, contracts, and internal controls.
o Support employee recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.
· Organizational Support
o Build collaborative relationships with committees, members, and community organizations.
o Participate in long-range planning and organizational improvement initiatives.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Education & Experience
o Bachelor's degree
o Four or more years of progressively responsible leadership or nonprofit management experience.
o Experience with budgeting, operations, staff supervision, and volunteer engagement in a non-profit preferred.
· Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
o Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
o Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities with sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.
o Collaborative, adaptable, and service-oriented leadership style.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, CRM software, and financial software.
o Familiarity with Jewish traditions and communal life, or a willingness to learn.
Additional Requirements
o Valid driver's license.
o Successful completion of a Level II background screening.
o Ability to lift up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
o Availability for evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays as needed.
