Title: Christian School Teacher Purpose: The Christian School Teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter to produce the next generation of well-rounded servant leaders as well as contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God. Employment Status: · Full-time · 10-month contract position as approved by the Christian Education Board for one year · Working Hours: 8:25 am – 3:20 pm, M-F during the school year including teacher in-service and out-service days; additional hours as required to complete work for the position as well as mandatory attendance at meetings and events as listed in the Faculty Handbook · Location: TCA Classroom Reporting Relationship: Principal oversees all TCA staff; has direct oversight of all academic areas including the development and evaluation of the teaching staff Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Key Accountability Instructional Preparation and Implementation Duty Statements · Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to all students in the class following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the Principal · Plan and present a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, abilities and diversity of the students and their various learning styles, challenging each to do his/her best including but not limited to o Using engaging, creative and appropriate assignments and resources o Assigning homework with a clear purpose o Utilizing valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy · Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities · Plan weekly lesson plans utilizing FACTS · Plan thoroughly by preparing a quarterly and semester lesson plan overview according to the scope and sequence of the course · Works with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and cross-curricular collaboration · Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher Key Accountability Classroom Management Duty Statements · Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students including but not limited to o Leading students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ o Motivating students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling · Set the expectation that all students participate in class activities · Establish clear expectations (assignments, tests, etc) and objectives for the classroom in a timely manner · Start and end classes on time · Develop appropriate relationships with students; being friendly without being the student’s friend · Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration · Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment utilizing the Parent/Student Handbook as a guide for student behavior · Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff and administration · Report discipline or counseling situations to the Principal · Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom as outlined in the Faculty Handbook · Know the school procedures for dealing with emergency situations Key Accountability Record Keeping Duty Statements · Take attendance daily using FACTS · Maintain regular and accurate records of grades and lesson plans in FACTS according to the Faculty Handbook · Maintain regular and accurate records of discipline matters Key Accountability Student Assessment Duty Statements · Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required including but not limited to o Written assignments o Written reports o Oral reports/presentations o Group projects o Individual projects o Abeka readers · Grade and return assignments within the timeframe as noted in the Faculty Handbook Key Accountability Integration of Teaching Methods and Technology in the Classroom Duty Statements · Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods and materials and teaching strategies that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional · Provide opportunities for students to present and talk about their work · Plan through approved channels the use of field trips, guest speakers and other media for a balanced classroom · Integrate grade appropriate, approved*, educational technology into the classroom as well as assignments including but not limited to o Visual Aids o Manipulatives o Audio/Video Clips** o PowerPoint/Prezi o Google Classroom *All sources are to be viewed/reviewed by the teacher, **ALL videos and audio/video clips must be previewed in their entirety by the teacher. Key Accountability Communication Duty Statements · Keep students, parents and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure · Keep accurate records in FACTS regarding meetings and conversations with students and parents · Seek the counsel of the Principal and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude Key Accountability Ministry Responsibilities and Expectations Duty Statements · Arrive on time to scheduled meetings including but not limited to o TCA Chapel o After school staff meetings o In-service meetings o Out-service Meetings · Arrive on time and stay for the duration of Ministry Opportunities as assigned by administration · Attend ministry events as outlined in the Faculty Handbook · Maintain a physical presence with the students by attending, and when possible, participating in school chapels, assemblies, athletic events, and other presentations · Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations and outings as assigned · Read all email communication from administration and respond as needed · Monitor the students in the teacher’s care and not leave students unattended · Assume responsibility for school materials including books and technology · Read and follow the Faculty Handbook and Staff Handbook · Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth · Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching · Participate in yearly evaluation meetings with Principal Key Accountability Professionalism Duty Statements · Maintain confidentiality · Dress appropriately – adhering to the TCA dress code Key Accountability Environment Duty Statements Lunchroom · Make sure area is clean after use · Properly dispose of all trash · Inspect bathrooms prior to leaving area · Instruct students on proper cleanliness · Wipe down tables, microwave, etc, after use Classroom · Keep desk area neat and clean · Trash pickup and trash receptacle placed outside door at end of the day · Instruct students on keeping their area neat and clean · If room used by church, put things away on Wednesdays and Fridays. · NOTE: Some teachers may be asked to pursue additional coursework for their position. If additional coursework is required, the classes, preparation and studying is to be done outside the normal working hours.
