What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse Plastic Surgery Office position at Temmen Plastic Surgery?
Plastic Surgery Nurse (RN or LPN)
South Tampa | Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM–4:00 PM | 37–40 Hours/Week | In-Person
The role is specifically clinic-based RN support — pre-op preparation, post-op care, patient education, incision/drain care, and patient communication — not OR/surgery assisting.
Temmen Plastic Surgery and Med Spa is a boutique plastic surgery and aesthetics practice in South Tampa led by Dr. Traci M. Temmen, a female, board-certified plastic surgeon and multiple-time Tampa Top Doc.
We are a small, close-knit, all-female team that works hard, moves quickly, holds ourselves to a high standard, and genuinely enjoys working together. Our patients trust us with something incredibly personal, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We believe exceptional plastic surgery is about more than beautiful results. It is about safety, communication, education, attention to detail, and making every patient feel genuinely cared for throughout their entire surgical journey.

The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Plastic Surgery Nurse (RN or LPN) to join our growing team.
This is a highly patient-focused clinical position centered around preoperative preparation, postoperative care, patient education, and ongoing communication with surgical patients.
This is not an operating room or surgical-assisting position. Our nurse will be primarily responsible for helping patients feel prepared, informed, comfortable, and cared for before and after their procedures in our office.
You will become a familiar and trusted face for our surgical patients throughout their journey—from their preoperative appointments through their postoperative recovery.
We are looking for someone who is clinically confident, compassionate, highly organized, calm under pressure, and exceptionally attentive to detail.
You should genuinely enjoy working with surgical patients and understand that plastic surgery patients often need both excellent clinical care and a great deal of reassurance, education, and personal attention.
What You'll Do:
Preoperative Patient Care
- Prepare surgical patients for their upcoming procedures
- Review medical history, medications, allergies, and relevant clinical information
- Obtain and document vital signs and other clinical information
- Complete preoperative nursing assessments and documentation
- Review preoperative instructions and ensure patients understand what is expected before surgery
- Educate patients about what to expect on the day of surgery and throughout their recovery
- Answer appropriate clinical questions and communicate concerns to Dr. Temmen
- Help ensure patients have completed required preoperative testing, paperwork, and medical clearances
- Identify potential concerns or changes in a patient's medical history and communicate them appropriately
- Help patients feel prepared, comfortable, and confident going into surgery
- Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient preoperative workflow
Postoperative Patient Care
- Provide attentive, compassionate postoperative care to plastic surgery patients
- Perform postoperative assessments and communicate findings appropriately
- Provide wound care and dressing changes as directed
- Assist with drain care, drain education, and drain removal as appropriate
- Monitor healing and identify concerns that require physician evaluation
- Reinforce postoperative instructions and recovery guidelines
- Educate patients about expected swelling, bruising, discomfort, activity restrictions, and other aspects of recovery
- Help patients understand what is normal during recovery and when they should contact the office
- Provide reassurance and emotional support throughout the recovery process
- Assist with postoperative appointments and follow-up visits
- Document postoperative assessments, patient concerns, and clinical communication accurately
- Communicate closely with Dr. Temmen regarding patient progress and concerns
Surgical Patient Communication
- Serve as a trusted clinical point of contact for surgical patients
- Communicate with patients by phone, text, and email regarding appropriate clinical questions and postoperative concerns
- Triage postoperative concerns and escalate appropriately to Dr. Temmen
- Follow established office protocols for patient communication and clinical concerns
- Provide timely follow-up and ensure patients do not feel forgotten or unsure of what to do
- Build strong relationships with patients throughout their surgical journey
- Coordinate closely with the patient coordinator and front office team to ensure a seamless patient experience
Patient Education
- Provide thorough, easy-to-understand education before and after surgery
- Reinforce physician instructions and ensure patients understand their responsibilities
- Help patients understand realistic expectations for the recovery process
- Educate patients on wound care, drains, medications, compression garments, activity restrictions, and other postoperative instructions as directed
- Encourage patients to communicate concerns rather than allowing them to worry or guess
- Help patients feel confident and supported throughout their recovery
Clinical & Practice Support
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional clinical environment
- Assist with clinical inventory and supply management
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked and prepared for patient visits
- Communicate supply and equipment needs to management
- Follow established infection-control and patient-safety protocols
- Participate in team meetings, training, and practice initiatives
- Work closely with Dr. Temmen and the entire team to improve patient care and clinical workflow
- Be willing to jump in and help wherever needed
The Ideal Candidate Is:
- Clinically confident, competent, and highly attentive to detail
- Warm, compassionate, and genuinely enjoys caring for patients
- Calm and reassuring, especially when patients are anxious or concerned about their recovery
- Extremely organized and efficient
- A strong communicator who can explain clinical information clearly and confidently
- Comfortable educating patients and answering questions within scope of practice
- Proactive—you see what needs to be done and do it
- Able to recognize when something doesn't look right and appropriately escalate concerns
- Comfortable communicating with patients by phone, text, and email
- Polished, professional, and personable
- Someone who takes patient safety seriously
- Someone who holds herself to a high standard
- Comfortable working independently while functioning as part of a close-knit team
- Flexible and willing to jump in wherever needed
- Passionate about plastic surgery, aesthetics, and exceptional patient care
