What are the responsibilities and job description for the Busser/Barback position at Temaki Den?
Temaki Den is a handroll and aburi sushi concept located in RiNo district inside The Source Hotel Market Hall. We opened in October 2020 and are looking to add a part-time busser/barback to our team.
Chef Toshi Kizaki’s kodawari, or uncompromising pursuit of perfection, has distinguished his restaurants (Sushi Den, Izakaya Den, OTOTO) as some of the best in the U.S. Using this expertise, he created Temaki Den – a no-frills hand roll and aburi sushi bar. Temaki Den is a casual, modern alternative to the traditional high-end sushi bar.
Temaki – “Handroll”. Temaki-zushi, literally translated to hand roll sushi, is a simple roll of nori (seaweed) wrapped around shari (rice) and neta (fish). This style of sushi allows us to highlight our quality ingredients. Temaki-zushi is best enjoyed while the rice is still warm and the nori crisp. We serve one piece at a time so the customer can savor each piece at its peak temperature. In addition to handrolls, we also offer sushi rolls, nigiri sushi, appetizers and a full cocktail, wine, beer, and sake menu.
Busser/Barback
We are looking for an experienced busser/barback to join our amazing team. The busser/barback is responsible for providing exceptional hospitality for all Temaki Den guests. Bussers and barbacks are responsible for pre-bussing, clearing, sanitizing and resetting all table/bar seats in accordance with Temaki Den standards. They are also responsible for supporting the serving and bar staff.
Bussers and barbacks must be proactive and team-oriented people. Often, our support team manages multiple jobs/tasks, so being able to multitask and excel in a fast-paced work environment is a requirement—all with a sense of urgency, omotenashi, a positive attitude, and friendly manners.
Barbacks have similar responsibilities to bussers but are also tasked with assisting the bartenders with opening, closing and running sidework. Responsibilities include keeping the bar stocked with liquor, syrups, glasses, and all other necessary items, preparing garnishes, refilling ice wells, and changing beer kegs. Barbacks also assist with guest interactions by refilling water glasses and clearing dishes throughout service.
