Payroll Operations Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Operations Manager to lead our payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely processing. This role is responsible for overseeing all payroll functions, managing various compensation plans, and seamlessly integrating new acquisitions into payroll and benefits systems. The Payroll Operations Manager will collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and other departments while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and employee support.  This position is onsite at the St. Louis corporate office. 

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all payroll functions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Administer and maintain multiple payment structures, including regular wages, bonuses, and special compensation programs.
• Lead the integration of new acquisitions into existing payroll and benefits systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of employee benefit plans to ensure proper deductions, classifications, and reporting.
• Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing to guarantee accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Prepare, review, and communicate payroll records, reports, and statements to employees and management.
• Partner with HR, Finance, and operations teams to resolve discrepancies and support decision-making.
• Stay current on payroll legislation, tax regulations, and industry best practices, making recommendations for process improvements as needed.

 Education and Experience:

• 5–10 years of progressive experience in multi-state payroll operations, including payroll system management and M&A integration.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred; however, equivalent applicable experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel with the ability to build and maintain complex spreadsheets, utilize formulas and pivot tables, analyze large data sets, and generate meaningful payroll and financial reports required.
• Proven experience in payroll management, preferably within a multi-location or growing organization.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems and software.
• Experience with ADP Workforce Now (ADP WFN) and NetSuite highly preferred.
• Familiarity with benefits administration, payroll/HRIS integrations, and compliance reporting.
• Experience in compensation planning and total rewards preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll processes to employees at all levels.
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
