Job Summary:
In order to technically lead a robotics and machine learning project Teledyne FLIR Defense is looking for a motivated Sr. Research Engineer who can serve as a Principal Investigator.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Technically Contribute to C , Python, and Cuda codebases.
- Drive technical decision making, coordinating between software engineers and machine learning engineers, amongst a distributed internal and subcontractor team.
- Prepare technical reports and contractual deliverables for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Drive development of a mature machine learning stack.
- Research, evaluate, and implement newest techniques in machine vision, robotics, and deep learning.
- Ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and compliance standards throughout the development lifecycle.
Job Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar technical field with 3 years of relevant experience or Masters with 8 years of relevant experience.
- Foundational knowledge of deep learning techniques, familiarity with PyTorch and Data Version Control (DVC) is a plus.
- Strong foundation of linear algebra and statistics.
- Understanding of SLAM algorithms, 3D data, and numerical optimization.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex research projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
- Familiarity with Embedded Systems like the NVIDIA Orin.
- Familiarity with modern Linux/Unix operating systems like Ubuntu.
- Able and willing to travel approximately 20%, primarily domestic.
