Job Description This position can work from any of the following Teledyne FLIR office locations: Elkridge, MD Freeport, PA West Lafayette, IN Job Summary: In order to technically lead a robotics and machine learning project Teledyne FLIR Defense is looking for a motivated Sr. Research Engineer who can serve as a Principal Investigator. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Technically Contribute to C , Python, and Cuda codebases. Drive technical decision making, coordinating between software engineers and machine learning engineers, amongst a distributed internal and subcontractor team. Prepare technical reports and contractual deliverables for technical and non-technical audiences. Drive development of a mature machine learning stack. Research, evaluate, and implement newest techniques in machine vision, robotics, and deep learning. Ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and compliance standards throughout the development lifecycle. Job Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar technical field with 3 years of relevant experience or Masters with 8 years of relevant experience. Foundational knowledge of deep learning techniques, familiarity with PyTorch and Data Version Control (DVC) is a plus. Strong foundation of linear algebra and statistics. Understanding of SLAM algorithms, 3D data, and numerical optimization. Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex research projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively. Familiarity with Embedded Systems like the NVIDIA Orin. Familiarity with modern Linux/Unix operating systems like Ubuntu. Able and willing to travel approximately 20%, primarily domestic.
