Overview
The Sr. Consumer Loan Officer is a senior-level lending professional responsible for originating, underwriting, and closing complex consumer loan applications. This role requires advanced credit analysis skills, sound judgment, and a strong focus on member service. The position also supports portfolio growth, risk management, and cross-selling initiatives while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and credit union policies.
SR. LOAN OFFICER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Loan Origination & Underwriting
- Evaluate, approve, and structure consumer loan applications, including direct auto, unsecured, and other consumer loan products
- Analyze credit reports, income documentation, debt ratios, and collateral to make sound lending decisions
- Exercise appropriate lending authority while adhering to credit union policies and risk tolerance
- Handle exceptions, counteroffers, and complex lending scenarios with minimal supervision
Member Service & Relationship Building
- Provide consultative guidance to members regarding loan options, terms, and financial solutions
- Deliver a high level of service through timely follow-up and clear communication
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional credit union products and services
Portfolio & Risk Management
- Monitor loan quality and ensure adherence to underwriting standards
- Assist in managing delinquency by identifying risk trends and supporting early intervention efforts
- Maintain thorough and accurate loan documentation
Operational Efficiency
- Process a high volume of loan applications efficiently while maintaining accuracy
- Ensure compliance with all federal regulations (e.g., Reg Z, FCRA, ECOA) and internal policies
- Stay current on lending guidelines, products, and market trends
Collaboration & Leadership
- Serve as a resource for junior loan officers and lending staff
- Assist with training and mentoring team members as needed
- Collaborate with dealers, branch staff, and other departments to support loan growth
Other
· Successful and timely completion of all required compliance training.
· Special projects and other duties assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge of credit risk assessment and portfolio performance metrics, preferred
· Previous mentoring or leadership experience, preferred
· High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred
· 4–6 years of consumer lending experience, preferably within a credit union or financial institution
· Proven experience with complex underwriting and higher loan authority levels
· Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable meeting growth targets.

- Proficiency in loan origination systems and related software
