Summary:
QC Scientist II / QC Microbiologist perform moderately complex microbiological analyses in a pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory. Test raw materials, in-process products, finished products, stability samples, and production intermediates. Support internal development and manufacturing operations through validated microbiological testing. Identify analytical issues, recommend solutions, and communicate accurate results. Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, SOPs, and laboratory safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct microbiological testing using internally developed and compendial methods.
- Perform Bioburden, Bacterial Endotoxin, Particulate Matter, Sterility, and Water testing.
- Identify and report OOS, unexpected, and non-routine analytical/product results.
- Troubleshoot microbiological testing issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain and troubleshoot analytical laboratory instruments.
- Document, review, and report test results in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Communicate testing results with internal departments, clients, agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and support regulatory documentation.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, instructional documents, and method validation reports.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and testing materials.
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant laboratory work areas.
- Follow GMP, GLP, SOP, safety, and quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement and PPI initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry preferred; Associate degree in Biotechnology or a related scientific field minimally required.
- 3 years of pharmaceutical microbiology or related laboratory experience.
- Experience with LIMS, SLIM, TrackWise, or Documentum.
- Reviewer/approver or qualified checker experience.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement/PPI initiatives.
- Knowledge of microbiological method development and validation.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative microbiological testing.
- Knowledge of chemistry and analytical instrumentation.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret technical procedures and applicable governmental regulations.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare SOPs and method validation reports.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong ownership, accountability, and customer focus.
- Ability to safely perform laboratory work while using required PPE.
