Work Type: Onsite
Shift: Day Rotation (M-F) - 40/week 13 Weeks (typically starting at 6a-7a. 5, 8hr shifts or 4, 10hr shifts)

Job Summary:

• Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed.
• Actively participates in patient care and safety.
• Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.

Job Responisbilities:

• Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
• Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
• Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure.
• Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
• Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
• Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.
• Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems.
• Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
• Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
• Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
• Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
• Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
• Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
• Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.
• Takes rotating call duty.
• Will perform additional responsibilities, as requested.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous Operating Room experience.
• Previous Surgical Technologist experience.

Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• NBSTSA - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
