Description

The Onsite Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing safety programs on active commercial construction projects. This role works directly in the field to promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards, and proactively identify and mitigate jobsite hazards. The Safety Coordinator serves as a key liaison between project teams, subcontractors, and management to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Safety Program Implementation

• Enforce company safety policies, site-specific safety plans, and OSHA regulations on active jobsites
• Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
• Ensure all jobsite activities comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations
  
  
  

Jobsite Monitoring & Inspections

• Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and hazard assessments
• Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors; initiate corrective actions promptly
• Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all personnel
• Monitor high-risk activities such as trenching, scaffolding, fall protection, confined spaces, and crane operations
  
  
  

Incident Prevention & Response

• Lead or assist with accident, incident, and near-miss investigations
• Document findings and develop corrective and preventative action plans
• Ensure incidents are reported according to company policy and regulatory requirements
• Support emergency response procedures and coordinate first aid/medical response when necessary
  
  
  

Training & Orientation

• Deliver ongoing safety training, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
• Track and maintain safety training records and certifications
• Promote worker engagement and accountability through safety awareness initiatives
  
  
  

Subcontractor Coordination

• Review subcontractor safety plans, JHAs, and compliance documentation
• Hold subcontractors accountable for adherence to safety requirements
• Participate in subcontractor coordination meetings to address safety concerns
• Issue safety notices or stop-work recommendations when necessary
  
  
  

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, safety meetings, and corrective actions
• Prepare safety reports for project management and company leadership
• Assist with regulatory inspections and audits (OSHA, owner, or third-party)
• Support project closeout with safety documentation
  
  
  

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to integrate safety into daily operations
• Serve as a visible safety presence on the jobsite to encourage open communication
• Promote a proactive safety culture focused on prevention rather than reaction
  
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 2–5 years of safety experience in commercial construction or related field
• Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926)
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (required)
• Ability to identify jobsite hazards and implement corrective measures
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 500/510, CHST, ASP, or CSP certification
• Experience working on large-scale commercial or multi-trade projects
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
• Familiarity with safety management software and reporting tools

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.
