We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Referral Coordinator to support our cardiology practice. This role is responsible for obtaining and managing patient referrals, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring seamless coordination between patients, providers, and referring physician offices. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and demonstrates strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain referrals from patients’ primary care physician (PCP) offices for all scheduled visits across clinic locations.
- Verify current insurance coverage and ensure all necessary authorizations are secured prior to appointments.
- Coordinate and schedule incoming referrals in a timely and accurate manner.
- Proactively monitor physician schedules to identify add-on appointments requiring referrals or authorization.
- Serve as a primary point of contact and representative for cardiology services with referring physician offices, insurance carriers, and patients.
- Collaborate closely with the Patient Service Representative (PSR) team to ensure all referral and authorization requirements are met.
- Communicate effectively with the clinic billing department to resolve referral or insurance-related issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of face-to-face customer service experience (healthcare, retail, or administrative environments).
- Experience handling a multi-line telephone system.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Prior experience in a healthcare clinic or front desk setting.
- Familiarity with Epic or similar Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Experience working with insurance verification, referrals, or prior authorizations.
- A proactive and detail-oriented professional with a patient-first mindset.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Excellent time management and adaptability in a dynamic healthcare environment.
