Position Summary
The Utilities Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating utility crews on underground utility and storm drainage projects. This role oversees daily field operations, ensures projects are completed safely and efficiently, and works closely with superintendents, operators, subcontractors, and project teams to maintain productivity and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead utility crews performing underground utility installation and storm drainage work
- Coordinate daily jobsite activities, manpower, equipment, and materials
- Read and interpret blueprints, utility plans, grade stakes, and specifications
- Ensure proper installation of water, sewer, storm drainage, and utility systems
- Monitor trench safety, benching, shoring, and OSHA compliance at all times
- Coordinate with equipment operators, survey crews, inspectors, and subcontractors
- Maintain production schedules while ensuring quality workmanship
- Perform daily safety meetings and enforce company safety standards
- Troubleshoot field issues and communicate effectively with project management
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and care of equipment and tools
- Assist with project layout, elevations, and grade verification as needed
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and material usage records
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in underground utilities, storm drainage, or civil construction
- Previous foreman or crew leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of utility installation, trenching, grading, and excavation practices
- Ability to read blueprints, utility plans, and grade stakes
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, trench safety, and underground utility safety standards
- Experience coordinating crews, subcontractors, and heavy equipment operations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as project demands require
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GPS or laser grading equipment
- CDL license is a plus
- Experience working on commercial site development projects
