Position Summary
The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating woodworking CNC machines (currently Biesse) to fabricate and modify plywood components with a high degree of accuracy. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality through precise machining and inspection processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and work orders to determine machining operations and optimal sequencing
- Set up, program, operate, and maintain CNC woodworking machines to produce precision components
- Measure, lay out, and verify dimensions and tolerances using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
- Inspect machined parts to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machine faults; modify and debug CNC programs as needed
- Calibrate and adjust machine programs to maintain accuracy and efficiency
- Develop and implement corrective actions for any specification deviations
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor part replacement
- Maintain accurate inspection records and complete quality reports
- Manage and monitor plywood stock inventory levels
- Collaborate with supervisors, leads, and team members to support production goals
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)
- Consistently follow all EHS policies, procedures, and general safety rules
- Demonstrate initiative in working safely, including identifying and reporting hazards
- Actively participate in EHS programs and continuous improvement efforts
- Safety glasses and steel toe shoes must be worn at all times
- Safety gloves and hearing protection are available and should be used as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret production drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
- 3–5 years of experience operating CNC woodworking machinery in a furniture, cabinetry, or similar manufacturing environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred:
- Post-secondary or industry training in machining or CNC programming
