Infrastructure Engineer

Position Location: hybrid but will start onsite 5 days in the office

Sandston, VA

Schedule:

• Working hours: 8pm-6:30am
• Days: Thu-Sun

Roles and Responsibilities

• Collaborate directly with vendors and suppliers (QTS, Digital Realty, Data Bank) to coordinate power and cabling needs, as well as define and procure copper and fiber materials.
• Partner with internal network and deployment teams to fulfill connectivity requirements.
• Perform full cabinet deployments, including installation, maintenance, and support of data center infrastructure—structured cabling, servers, and networking hardware.
• Handle the removal of decommissioned assets and perform cable cleanup to maintain optimal organization.
• Manage and update asset inventory within the asset management database.
• Ensure adherence to established cabling, labeling, and data center standards.
• Serve in a design and engineering capacity on the data center facilities team, contributing to data center layout and infrastructure planning.
• Perform design, troubleshooting (break-fix), and implementation for structured fiber trunk cabling systems.

Required Technical Skills

• Proven experience installing, removing, and maintaining servers, cabling, and networking equipment.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic technologies and structured cabling systems, including testing and remediation.
• Ability to logically diagnose and resolve hardware failures and Layer 1 connectivity issues.
• Working knowledge of data center rack power distribution and connectivity requirements.
• Familiarity with day-to-day operations and support of enterprise data centers.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Quick learner with the ability to adapt to evolving technologies.
• Physically able to lift and move equipment up to approximately 50 lbs.

Preferred (Flex) Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience using ticketing systems such as Jira or ServiceNow.
• Familiarity with data center infrastructure management tools (DCIM, CMDB).
