PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Determines proper winding details, selects materials, produces required coils, and/or insulating materials and winds new standard, high temperature, and IEEE motors. Burns out, evaluates, and rewinds failed motors. Performs a variety of wiring connection work and electrical tests by performing the following duties.

PRIMARY DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Reviews bill of material, winding procedures, and winding data cards to determine proper winding detail. Selects and forms/prepares insulating materials. Determines proper wire and coil size and number of turns and produces winding coils.

· Prepares stator core for winding. Inserts insulating materials and coils per specified requirements. Connects coils per voltage and horsepower requirements. Shapes and forms motor diameters, ties coil ends, and attaches lead wires using brazed, soldered, or crimped connections. Performs preliminary dimensional and electrical inspections.

· Prepares wound motor for dipping. Verifies consistency of varnish prior to dipping and makes viscosity adjustments as required. Preheats, bakes, and cures motors as required.

· Cleans up and removes excess varnish after dipping.

· Performs final dimensional and electrical inspections of completed motors.

· Inspects, evaluates, burns out, and rewinds failed motors. Motor rewinding follows the same process as a new winding as stated above.

· Wires and connects lead seals, makes wiring subassemblies, extends leads, wires thermal cutouts and other accessories.

· Participates actively in continuous improvement through individual process changes and participation on cross-functional improvement teams.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL SKILLS:

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

· One-year certificate from a technical or trade school

· Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, walk, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds. May utilize a lifting device as required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to navigate facility.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
