JOB TITLE: Pipeline Maintenance I

DEPARTMENT: Pipeline

REPORTS TO: Pipeline Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION: Repairs and maintains water pipelines, valves, mechanical equipment; such as engines, pumps, motors, pneumatic tools and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Checks devices and tests their performance
  • Ability to safely operate a pickup truck, hook-up and pull various trailers, and properly strap down pipe, materials, equipment, etc.
  • Professionally communicate with customers, co-workers and members of the public when conducting District operations.
  • Read various water meters with units of measure consisting of gallons, gallons x10, acre feet and cubic feet.
  • Install, repair and replace various types of pipe, valves, pumps, meters, etc.
  • Makes recommendations for maintenance and/or repairs of equipment to the pipeline supervisor.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Perform miscellaneous support tasks to include weed clearing, jobsite trash disposal, material inventory, and general cleanup of company owned facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense to carry out work, with or without detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid California Driver’s License is required; trade school education is recommended. Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift certification.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use general hand tools.

Job Description: Repairs and maintains water pipelines, valves, mechanical equipment, such as engines, pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Examines installed pipelines for leaks and damage.

· Controls materials and supplies along with maintaining welding equipment

· Read various water meters with units of measure consisting of gallons, gallons x10, acre feet and cubic feet.

· Monitors machinery and equipment to diagnose causes of trouble.

· Checks devices and tests their performance

· Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

· Adjusts functional parts.

· Dismantles equipment to remove, repair or replace defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.

· Makes recommendations for maintenance and/or repairs of equipment to the pipeline and pump plant supervisors.

· Professionally communicate with customers, co-workers and members of the public when conducting District operations.

· Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

· Perform after hours/weekend On-Call duties as required.

· Ability to use general hand tools.

· Ability to safely and effectively operate various pneumatic and electrical tools.

· Ability to safely operate district equipment machinery, equipment and vehicles.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Maintains certification necessary to perform District projects. Continue training as needed for required job skills and certfifications Maintain and operate a district vehicle in a safe manner.
