Facilities Specialist
Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Facilities Specialist to support day-to-day facility operations. This role is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining a safe, functional, and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in an operational support role and takes ownership of facility upkeep and logistics.
This is not a managerial role—it is a working-level position focused on execution, responsiveness, and maintaining operational continuity.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., lighting, fixtures, furniture, basic electrical/mechanical issues)
- Communication cabling and some electronic storage coordination
- Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to identify and resolve issues proactively
- Coordinate and escort external vendors for repairs, maintenance, and inspections
- Support office moves, equipment setup, and workspace reconfiguration
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, storage rooms, and workspaces
- Monitor facility systems (HVAC, alarms, access control) and report or address issues
- Track and restock facility supplies (paper goods, kitchen items, maintenance materials)
- Assist with safety compliance efforts, including inspections and reporting hazards
- Support emergency response actions (e.g., alarms, building issues, after-hours calls as needed)
- Maintain logs and documentation for maintenance activities and service requests
- Assist with shipping/receiving and inventory of facility-related equipment
- Perform other facility-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or building operations
- General knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing basics)
- Ability to perform hands-on tasks using basic tools and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Good communication skills and customer-service mindset
- Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple facility needs throughout the day
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting government or DoD facilities
- Familiarity with workplace safety standards (OSHA awareness)
- Basic experience with work order or facility ticketing systems
- Forklift or equipment operation experience (if applicable)
- A Bachelor’s of Facilities Management (FM), Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology or a similar degree. Or Military Experience as a 12W, 12K, 12R, 12H, 3E0X1, 1141.
- Industry Certifications:
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
- Facility Management Professional (FMP)
- OSHA 10 / OSHA 30 - Safety compliance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the day
Clearance:
- Current secret or higher DoW clearance.
Education & Experience:
- 4-7 years of direct relatable experience as a Facilities Specialist.
Location:
- On-site position, Aberdeen, MD
- Monday–Friday
- Occasional after-hours support may be required for urgent facility needs
Travel:
