About this role:
TechSource is seeking a Principal Electrical Systems Architect to join the Advanced Sources and Detector (ASD) Project team in support of the design, integration, and operational readiness of the Scorpius ~20 MeV linear induction accelerator, used for subcritical experiments at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
This role is intended for a senior technical leader with deep experience architecting and maturing R&D electrical systems for experimental or first-of-a-kind platforms, such as accelerators, pulsed power systems, or other high-energy physics applications. The successful candidate will provide system-level technical leadership across the accelerator’s electrical subsystems, with a strong emphasis on concept development, integration, and performance optimization, rather than facility electrical infrastructure.
The position requires close collaboration with national laboratories, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver innovative, high-reliability electrical solutions in high-voltage and high-radiation environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the principal technical authority for all R&D-focused electrical and control subsystems of the Scorpius accelerator
- Define and maintain system-level electrical architecture, integration strategy, and design margins for complex experimental systems
- Lead the development and maturation of custom electrical, pulsed power, and control systems from early concept through commissioning
- Provide technical direction for high-voltage, magnet power, instrumentation & controls, vacuum control, and diagnostic systems
- Lead and approve formal design, readiness, and hazard reviews in accordance with DOE, NEC, UL, and national safety standards
- Mentor senior and mid-level electrical engineers, guiding complex design decisions and system trade studies
- Collaborate directly with national laboratory partners (LANL, LLNL, SNL) to ensure technical alignment, knowledge transfer, and design consistency
- Oversee and validate procurement, integration, commissioning, and performance qualification of accelerator electrical systems
- Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex electrical system anomalies in experimental or operational environments
