The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing and warehouse operations within a high-mix, low-to-medium volume EMS environment. This role ensures operational excellence across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP) by managing production, coordinating staff, and maintaining process discipline.
The Operations Manager collaborates closely with production supervisors, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to maintain schedule adherence, optimize equipment utilization, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role focuses on smooth production flow, resolving operational challenges, and ensuring compliance with established processes and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the position provides leadership and mentorship to frontline supervisors, with a clear career path toward a Director role.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
Lead production supervisors and frontline staff to ensure efficient execution of daily manufacturing activities.
Set clear performance expectations aligned with SQDCP metrics.
Provide coaching, training, and ongoing performance feedback to support workforce development.
Participate in daily operational reviews and management meetings to address production issues and escalate when necessary.
Promote accountability, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Support workforce planning to align staffing levels with production demand and operational targets.
Ensure consistent application of company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards.
Operational Oversight
Coordinate daily production to meet schedules and on-time delivery commitments.
Monitor and manage performance across SMT, secondary operations, assembly, test, and warehouse functions.
Collaborate with production planning teams to improve schedule execution using ERP/MRP systems such as JobPack.
Maximize SMT line utilization and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through setup efficiency, preventive maintenance, and coordination.
Drive productivity improvements through standard work practices and effective line balancing.
Implement and sustain lean manufacturing practices, including 5S, visual management, waste reduction, and process standardization.
Maintain operational visibility through dashboards, production boards, and KPIs.
Identify and resolve disruptions affecting schedules, material availability, or product quality.
Work with Engineering on new product introductions, process improvements, and manufacturability initiatives.
Partner with Supply Chain and Materials teams to ensure timely material availability and accurate inventory management.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality management standards, including ISO, AS, medical, and ITAR.
Lead continuous improvement efforts, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Promote a safe work environment through adherence to environmental, health, and safety policies.
Qualifications
Proven leadership in manufacturing operations, preferably in EMS environments.
Strong knowledge of SMT, through-hole, assembly, test, and box build processes.
Experience with production planning and ERP/MRP systems such as JobPack or similar.
Ability to analyze operational metrics and make data-driven decisions.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong collaboration skills with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams.
Commitment to safety, quality, and operational discipline.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field required.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
Minimum 7 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience in the EMS industry.
Experience in regulated environments (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, ITAR) preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Pay: $160,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
