Software Architect (Cloud & Platform Engineering)

The Opportunity: We’re seeking a highly skilled Software Architect with deep experience in cloud-native systems, distributed architectures, and hands-on engineering. This role blends rapid prototyping, architectural leadership, and close collaboration with senior technical and business stakeholders. You will help shape platform strategy, guide engineering teams, and drive the design of scalable, high-performance services.

Responsibilities

• Build rapid proof-of-concepts (POCs) to experiment, validate new ideas, and establish reusable patterns for engineering teams.
• Support engineers and project managers in fast-paced development and deployment workflows.
• Collaborate with VPs, architects, and cross-functional leaders to develop and maintain enterprise/platform architectures, data architectures, and API strategies.
• Participate in enterprise-wide architectural and engineering discussions, influencing direction and proposing new paradigms and best practices.
• Lead both high-level architectural design and detailed solution design; conduct reviews to ensure scalability, resiliency, and performance.
• Engage with business leaders to understand goals, principles, and strategic priorities, translating them into architectural direction.
• Communicate strategy changes, design decisions, and architectural guidance to senior leadership.
• Mentor engineers and solution architects to ensure technical clarity, alignment, and high-quality execution.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 7 years of hands-on Java development experience in backend or middleware environments.
• Strong background designing and implementing large-scale, cloud-native platforms with high resiliency, availability, and reliability.
• Experience building high-throughput, distributed systems.
• Solid experience with microservices, REST APIs, and (preferred) service mesh technologies.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills; able to influence without formal authority.
• Hands-on experience with several of the following (preferred):
• Languages/Frameworks: Java, Go, Vert.x, React
• Service & Networking: Envoy, gRPC, Protobuf
• Data Technologies: Postgres, CouchBase, Cassandra, Redis
• DevOps/CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift
• Additional Tools: Consul, Drools, Elastic Stack, Kafka, Spark, ML
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
