SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Quality Auditor is responsible for coordinating all in-process and final product specifications and maintaining testing and measurement equipment to ensure that the highest level of quality is achieved in accordance with Company policy, ISO, and IATF requirements. This position works in the manufacturing production environment.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final product audits to verify conformance to drawings, control plans, and customer specs.
  • Audit calibration records, work instructions, and quality records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support external audits (customer, registrar, regulatory) by gathering evidence and acting as an auditee.
  • Set up and test inspection equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct Layered Process Audits (LPA) on the production floor and document findings in the audit system.
  • Verify adherence to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and customer-specific requirements (CSRs).
  • Maintain audit schedules, reports, and nonconformance records in the QMS.
  • Review PPAP, control plans, FMEAs, and inspection records for accuracy.
  • Ensure traceability and lot control are maintained, especially on medical and safety-critical parts.
  • Document nonconformances, issue CARs, and follow up to verify implementation and effectiveness.
  • Participate in 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone investigations with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify trends across audit findings and recommend systemic improvements.
  • Support containment, sorting, and rework activities when quality issues are escalated.
  • Partner with production, engineering, and supplier quality to close gaps identified during audits.
  • Coach operators and team leads on quality standards, visual aids, and inspection methods.
  • Communicate audit results clearly to management with risk-based prioritization.
  • Suggest and implement cost-saving ideas aligning with the eight types of waste
  • Cultivate a team environment focused on continuous improvement efforts
  • Provide recommendations to the Quality team for clearly communicating quality criteria through boundary samples or work instructions

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Quality, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics, injection molding, or automotive strongly preferred).
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001; exposure to ISO 13485 a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and control plans.
  • Proficient with measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, height gages, gage pins, and basic CMM operation.
  • Understanding of PPAP, APQP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA.
  • Solid documentation skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/QMS systems.
  • Good interpersonal / communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects regularly weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally weighing up to 50 pounds.
