SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provides technical support for the molding operations including preparation, set-up, and troubleshooting of machines and secondary operations. Confers with direct Supervisor and/or Shift Lead. Examines and measures sample assemblies for adherence to surface and dimensional specifications, using gauges such as micrometers and calipers, and confers with Quality Control personnel to gain approval of sample for production. Examine work to detect production defects.

 

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate understanding of all set-up procedures and all molding machine functions.

  • Set-up, start, and troubleshoot presses using established process control methods.

  • Set-up straight forward open and closed molds as well as more complex molds with multiple core pulls, auxiliary hydraulics, and manifolds.

  • Set-up and troubleshoot secondary equipment.

  • Monitor press cycle to ensure that presses are running to routing standards.

  • Initiate corrective actions for jobs running out of standard cycle.

  • Demonstrate ability to set limit switches, timers, and process controls on presses.

  • Demonstrate ability to pull/clean screws and barrels.

  • Complete accurate IQ transactions in IQMS ERP system.

  • Change end of arm tooling and load robot program into press.

  • Demonstrate ability to do basic robotic troubleshooting on end of arm tooling.

  • Measure parts at start-up.

  • Perform periodic inspection rounds when needed.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals of RJG technology via e-dart control.

  • Relocate material and parts to the warehouse using hand cart and / or forklift.

  • Perform material handling duties in a back-up capacity as required.

  • Return shop packet and other related materials to the production office when jobs are completed.

  • Complete cleanup duties and return supplies to the proper location.

  • Run presses as needed.

  • Serve as a member of a special project team or attend training sessions as required.

  • Complete classes on materials, statistical process control (SPC), and basic processing skills as required.

  • Enter inventory transactions.

  • Comply with safety guidelines, rules, regulations, and procedures as well as maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.

  • Meet productivity standards and strive to increase productivity.

  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Interpret blueprint specifications, set-up documentation, control plans, and manufacturing instructions.

  • Use various inspection equipment or gauges to verify product quality and plot statistical data as required, generally involving several part numbers at a time.

  • Apply practical understanding of shop mathematics.

  • Assist Supervisor in training of new personnel on proper job procedures, quality requirements, and safety procedures.

  • Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation.

  • Operate overhead hoist/crane to position materials.

  • Notify supervisor when major service to machinery is required.

  • Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.

  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces, or adding coolant to machine reservoirs.

  • Position, adjust, and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, on arbors, or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms, manually or using hoists.

  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences.

  • Record operational data such as pressure readings, lengths of strokes, feed rates, and speeds.

  • Promote 5S mentality and push for strong housekeeping principles.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Knowledge:

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Hands on experience using measurement devices, i.e. calipers, micrometer, height gage, etc. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and applications. Experience using computer software products, i.e. MS Excel, MS Word.

  • Mathematics - Knowledge of mathematics and its practical shop applications. Ability to count, verify, and key on hand quantities into the system.

  • Education/Training - High school diploma or 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills:

  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

  • Language - Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively communicate.

Abilities:

  • Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.

  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) to ensure part quality meets customer requirements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

  • Reaction Time - The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.

  • Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
