Position Overview:

The AVC Systems Designer is responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of complex audio, video, and control systems for TechMDinc projects. Acting as a subject matter expert, this role collaborates with clients, project managers, engineers, and design teams to transform creative visions into technically robust solutions that meet or exceed client expectations. The AVC Systems Designer ensures all systems are innovative, elegant, and grounded in rigorous engineering standards while managing project scope, budget, and schedule. In addition to technical leadership, this position mentors’ junior staff, drives process improvements, and upholds TechMDinc’s commitment to excellence and storytelling through technology.


Primary Responsibilities:

 

Project Leadership

  • Serve as subject matter lead for assigned projects
  • Interface with clients to gather requirements and align on project goals
  • Prepare cost estimates and scope documentation for proposals
  • Advise Scheduling on resource needs based on project timelines
  • Lead internal meetings, assign tasks, and monitor progress
  • Ensure deliverables meet TechMDinc standards and client requirements
  • Maintain project financial health and budget compliance
  • Manage client communications regarding scope and schedule
  • Identify out-of-scope requests and coordinate change orders with Management
  • Provide regular project status updates in internal management tools
  • Prepare agendas and lead client meetings and design reviews

  

Systems Design

  • Create or oversee design and engineering documentation: wiring diagrams, block diagrams, location plans, mounting details, equipment schedules, technical narratives, and O&M manuals
  • Develop or review design elements such as audio coverage maps, video projection maps, and control system requirements
  • Collaborate with CAD teams to populate BIM models with 3D Revit families
  • Work with Engineering to evaluate and specify equipment for each application
  • Review technical documentation for assembly, use, and maintenance
  • Document and review design requirements, tolerances, and evaluate materials and parts

 

Production, Procurement & Integration

  • Coordinate production tasks with Procurement, Production Engineering, and Production Management
  • Approve equipment selections to initiate procurement
  • Lead factory acceptance testing and oversee field installation/integration
  • Supervise installers and subcontractors onsite
  • Perform equipment configuration, site acceptance testing, and calibration
  • Execute speaker tuning, video display calibration, DSP file development, and show control programming
  • Develop user interfaces and support media installation and mixing
  • Train end-users on system operation and maintenance

 

Client Support

  • Act as subject matter expert for installed systems
  • Respond to warranty and technical support inquiries as needed

 

Process & Team Development

  • Lead after-action reviews to identify improvement opportunities
  • Support professional development of assigned employees through evaluations
  • Mentor and train junior staff in design and engineering workflows
  • Contribute to company design, engineering, and documentation standards
  • Propose and implement process improvements across the organization
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices

Core Requirements & Qualifications:


Systems Knowledge and Technical Software

  • Understanding of modern AVCL systems, technologies, and components
  • Proficiency in computer-aided drafting and modeling software: Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp
  • Proficiency in project management and database management software: Wrike, Quickbase, MS Access
  • Proficiency with audio DSP platforms: Q-SYS Designer, LA Network Manager, Dante Controller
  • Awareness of predictive audio software and system tuning tools: EASe, SoundVision, SMAART
  • Proficiency with video platforms: 7th Sense, Disguise, Pixera, BrightSign
  • Awareness of predictive video software and video calibration tools: Mapping Matter, CalMAN
  • Proficiency with show control platforms: Q-SYS Designer, Alcorn McBride, AMX
  • Understanding of IP networking and electrical power systems
  • Proficiency with general applications: Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Slack, VoIP

 

Certifications

  • Q-SYS Level One & Two
  • Q-SYS Controls 101
  • Dante Level One & Two
  • BrightSign Academy

 

Communication & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move within installation environments, including stooping or kneeling to access AV equipment
  • Capable of lifting equipment weighing 25–50 pounds to a height of 3–4 feet and loading into vehicles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and clients

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·      6 years’ experience in Audio, Video and Control Systems Design

·      Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Theater, Music or related field

·      Detail-oriented with a concentrated focus on quality

·      Experience with software scripting

Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
