We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in plastics manufacturing and injection molding tooling to join our growing automotive engineering team. This position focuses on evaluating designs for manufacturability (DFM), tooling validation, MoldFlow analysis, and optimizing injection molding processes for high-visibility (A-surface) automotive parts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate DFM and tool designs for complex injection-molded components.
- Apply engineering principles to ensure the manufacturability, durability, and quality of plastic parts.
- Conduct MoldFlow simulations to predict molding performance and suggest design/process improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, suppliers) to deliver production-ready parts.
- Perform hands-on validation during tool trials and support process optimization.
- Provide engineering support during supplier tool builds, trials, and approvals.
- Support cost analysis activities related to tool design choices.
- Domestic and international travel up to 25% as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Polymer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of hands-on experience with plastic injection molding and tooling.
- Strong understanding of automotive appearance (A-surface) part requirements.
- Proficient in MoldFlow or other flow simulation software.
- Knowledge of additional plastics processes (e.g., blow molding, thermoforming) is a plus.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Automotive product development lifecycle experience.
- MoldFlow study creation and first tool trial participation.
- Understanding of tooling cost impacts based on design decisions.
