Property Manager (Contract) (Part-Time to Full-Time) – Oakland / Berkeley / Pinole
- Compensation: $25–30/hr (~$1000/week contract)
- Location: On-site (Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville properties)
- Start Date: Flexible, ideally within 4–6 weeks
- Contract Role: Part-time to full-time depending on fit and workflow
About Us
We are a family-owned property group managing a portfolio of ~10 multi-unit residential buildings (approx. 140 units) in the East Bay. Our approach is hands-on, grounded, and focused on building long-term relationships—with tenants and team members alike.
We’re looking for someone reliable, people-savvy, and detail-oriented to support our small team with day-to-day property management tasks, with a focus on vacancy advertising, unit showings, and task coordination—leasing support without the legal or financial responsibilities. You’ll work directly with the family ownership group in a collaborative—but sometimes opinionated—environment. Flexibility, independence, and performance are valued more than micromanagement.
What You'll Do
- Advertise and promote vacancies across online rental platforms (e.g., Craigslist, Zillow, Zumper, Apartments.com or your preference)
- Show units to prospective tenants and follow up like a sales rep—your charm and clarity matter
- Draft and coordinate basic application/leasing communications (like scheduling and follow-ups)
- Coordinate and schedule tasks assigned by our team—such as maintenance, appointments, misc. —ideally anticipating needs and drafting action plans for quick approval
- Coordinate work requested by the team—often based on maintenance, tenant, or property needs—with initiative and clarity
- Help ensure units are presentable, and alert us to issues that need attention
- Communicate with us clearly, and manage your time with autonomy
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 years of experience in property management, leasing, or a similar client-facing coordination role (sales, event coordination, hospitality may translate well)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (you’re comfortable navigating a mix of personalities—including occasionally opinionated family members—with diplomacy and patience)
- Detail-oriented and well-organized, with the ability to keep yourself on track without being chased
- Sales or marketing sensibility—you’re the kind of person who follows up with prospects and thinks about how a space is presented
- Comfortable working on-site across Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville; must be available for in-person showings and walkthroughs
- Independent but communicative: someone who can work flexibly but keep us in the loop
- Bonus if you’ve worked with property management software or rental platforms
This Role is Not About
- Managing rent collection or handling tenant screening
- Licensing or deep legal/contract work
- Doing everything—we’ll provide direction and expect outcomes, not round-the-clock hand holding
Perks
- Flexible hours and freedom to work your way—as long as results are there
- Performance-based trust and autonomy: we don’t micromanage, we just want things done well
- A chance to grow into a larger role if there's a strong fit
How to Apply
Please send your resume to the below email, with a brief note telling us:
- Why this role interests you.
- An example of how you’ve managed or leased a unit (or a situation managing competing personalities/opinions)
- What type of work environment brings out your best?
We're collaborative but candid—some days require flexibility and thick skin.
We’ll reach out to schedule an intro call with candidates we’d like to meet.
