Role Description The College Prep and Application Counselor is a remote, contract role focused on guiding high school students through every stage of the college preparation and application process. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting virtually with students and families, helping students create tailored college lists, and supporting them in planning coursework, extracurriculars, and summer activities. The counselor will review and provide feedback on application materials such as personal statements, supplemental essays, activity lists, and resumes, ensuring clarity, authenticity, and alignment with each student’s goals. This role also involves advising on standardized testing strategies where relevant, supporting students in understanding financial aid and scholarship options, and maintaining accurate records and progress notes. The counselor will collaborate with TechDev Academy’s team to refine counseling resources, contribute to workshops or webinars, and uphold consistent communication and follow-up with students and caregivers.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in college counseling and guiding college applications, including building school lists and supporting essay development.
- Background in student counseling and working effectively with high school students in one-on-one and small-group settings.
- Knowledge of student financial aid, scholarships, and need- and merit-based funding processes.
- Strong communication, writing, and editing skills to support compelling, authentic application materials.
- Ability to manage a remote caseload, stay organized across multiple deadlines, and maintain detailed student records.
- Familiarity with U.S. college admissions processes; understanding of international admissions pathways is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field; advanced degree or counseling certification preferred.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to inclusive, equity-focused advising.
- Comfort with virtual collaboration tools, learning platforms, and social media–based engagement.
