Overview
A fast-growing, litigation-driven law firm based in Menifee, California is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Associate Attorney to support its expanding criminal defense practice. The firm serves clients throughout the Inland Empire and surrounding areas, with a primary focus on Criminal Defense, while also handling select matters in Family Law, Civil Litigation, and Probate & Guardianship.
This is not a volume-based practice. The firm emphasizes strategic thinking, strong courtroom advocacy, and disciplined litigation, often handling high-stakes criminal matters, including felonies, misdemeanors, and violations of probation, that require precision and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
Court Appearances
- Attend and handle criminal hearings, including arraignments, pre-trials, probation violation hearings, suppression motions, and sentencing hearings
- Appear regularly in criminal court, both in person and remotely
Legal Writing & Research
- Draft and respond to criminal motions, including motions to suppress, dismiss, reduce bail, and modify probation
- Conduct legal research on penal code provisions, case law, and constitutional issues
- Prepare legal memoranda and assist in developing defense strategies
Discovery & Case Management
- Propound and respond to criminal discovery (e.g., police reports, witness statements, body cam footage)
- Analyze discovery for inconsistencies, Brady violations, or exculpatory evidence
- Meet and confer with prosecutors as needed
- Assist with discovery-related motions, including motions to compel
Client & Case Support
- Communicate with clients regarding case status, court procedures, and potential outcomes
- Assist in case evaluation, including reviewing evidence and assessing plea offers
- Collaborate with investigators, paralegals, and support staff to build effective defenses
Litigation Development
- Participate in trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibit organization, and motion practice
- Gain exposure to evidentiary hearings, preliminary hearings, and opportunities to handle select matters such as bail reviews or probation modification hearings
Performance Expectations
- Maintain a monthly billable target of approximately 140 hours
- Produce accurate, timely, and high-quality legal work
- Demonstrate professionalism in client interactions and court appearances
Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- 1–5 years of legal experience
- Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
Preferred:
- Experience in criminal defense (e.g., misdemeanor or felony cases)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
