Role Overview
The L2 Network Engineer (Smart Hands) acts as the on-site support resource for remote network and infrastructure teams. This role focuses on executing physical and logical network tasks, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth data center and site operations within defined SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
Network Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Level 2 support for network-related incidents and service requests
- Perform basic to intermediate troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls
- Assist in diagnosing connectivity, latency, and packet loss issues
- Work with remote teams for advanced issue resolution
Smart Hands Activities
- Rack & stack network devices (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Perform patching (fiber/copper) and cable management
- Handle device installation, replacement, and upgrades
- Perform power cycling and hardware checks
- Verify device status via LED indicators, console access, and connectivity tests
Configuration & Support
- Execute predefined configuration changes (VLANs, port configs, IP assignments)
- Support network upgrades, migrations, and rollouts
- Assist in firmware upgrades and patching activities
Monitoring & Documentation
- Monitor network devices and report anomalies
- Maintain accurate documentation (cabling, rack layouts, labeling)
- Update tickets and ensure proper incident tracking and closure
Coordination
- Act as a bridge between on-site operations and remote engineers
- Follow instructions from L3/network architects during critical tasks
- Ensure adherence to SLA, SOPs, and safety standards
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
- Hands-on experience with Cisco / Juniper / HP switches & routers
- Basic knowledge of firewalls and wireless networking
- Experience in data center or field support environment
- Familiarity with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.)
- Ability to work in shifts / on-call support
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Cisco DNAC / Catalyst Center
- Experience with structured cabling standards
- Understanding of network monitoring tools
- Certifications like CCNA or equivalent
