What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI Engineer- I position at Tech Fabric?
AI Engineer (Early Career, 0–2 Years)
Company: TechFabric Location: Phoenix, Arizona · Remote-first Employment type: Full-time Experience: 0–2 years Required certification: Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate, or an equivalent industry AI/ML certification (see below)
About TechFabric
TechFabric is an AI-native engineering company that builds governed data platforms and production AI applications for mid-to-large enterprises, from the data lakehouse to the live application. We are a certified Databricks partner (alongside Microsoft, AWS and Google Cloud), and our own AI products run in production on the Databricks lakehouse stack. We hire, and train, engineers who own outcomes, not just tickets.
The Role
We are looking for early-career AI Engineers who have already proven they can learn the modern GenAI stack and are ready to apply it on real projects. You will work alongside senior data and AI engineers to build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) applications, data pipelines that feed them, and the evaluation and governance around them. This is a working role with real ownership, and you will be supported by experienced mentors from day one.
What You Will Do
- Build and ship GenAI applications on the Databricks platform, including RAG pipelines, vector search indexes and LLM-powered agents
- Prepare and transform enterprise data for AI use: ingestion, cleaning, chunking, embedding and indexing of structured and unstructured data
- Write clean, tested Python and SQL, and process data at scale with Spark
- Deploy and serve models and AI applications using Model Serving, and track experiments and model lifecycle with MLflow
- Evaluate AI application quality (retrieval quality, response accuracy, cost and latency) and help improve it iteratively
- Apply governance and security practices using Unity Catalog, including access control and lineage
- Collaborate with senior engineers, data engineers and client-facing teams to understand requirements and turn them into working features
- Document your work and share learnings with the team
What We Are Looking For
Must have
- 0–2 years of professional experience in AI, ML or data engineering (internships, fellowships and substantial project work count)
- A current industry AI certification, for example:
- Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate (preferred)
- Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate
- AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate
- Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer
- Another comparable certification, at the discretion of the hiring panel
- Solid Python and working SQL
- Understanding of GenAI fundamentals: LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG and vector search
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts: ETL/ELT, lakehouse and medallion architecture, batch vs streaming
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field
- Good written and verbal communication, and the ability to explain technical work to non-technical people
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Databricks (notebooks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, MLflow, Model Serving, Vector Search)
- Experience with Apache Spark / PySpark
- Experience with LangChain or similar agent and orchestration frameworks
- Exposure to one major cloud (Azure, AWS or GCP)
- Git, CI/CD basics, and containerisation (Docker)
- A portfolio, GitHub repository or capstone project demonstrating a working RAG or agent application
What Success Looks Like
- First 30 days: you are set up on our tooling, understand our delivery process, and have made your first code contributions on a live project
- First 90 days: you own a well-scoped component (for example a data preparation pipeline or an evaluation harness) and deliver it with review from a senior engineer
- First 6–12 months: you contribute independently to production AI features, and can explain the quality, cost and governance trade-offs of your design choices
What You Will Get
- Work on production AI systems for enterprise clients from the start
- Structured mentoring from senior engineers (our engineers average 15 years of experience)
- Access to continued certification and learning on the Databricks and partner cloud platforms
Hiring Process
- Application and certification verification
- Technical screening (Python, SQL and GenAI fundamentals)
- Practical exercise or live problem-solving session
- Interview with the engineering team
- Offer
