The Audio Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for installing, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and servicing commercial audio visual systems for customers across a variety of industries. This role works with integrated technologies including video conferencing, digital displays, sound systems, control systems, and network-connected AV solutions. Position Summary
The Audio Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for installing, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and servicing commercial audio visual systems for customers across a variety of industries. This role works with integrated technologies including video conferencing, digital displays, sound systems, control systems, and network-connected AV solutions. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, customer-focused, and committed to delivering high-quality installations while maintaining safety and professionalism.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Install commercial audio visual systems including displays, projectors, video walls, speakers, microphones, amplifiers, cameras, and control systems.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, system schematics, and installation documentation.
- Pull, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling including Cat5e/Cat6, fiber optic, HDMI, coaxial, and control wiring.
- Rack, mount, and connect AV equipment according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Configure and commission AV systems including DSPs, video conferencing platforms, control processors, and network-connected devices.
- Perform functional testing and system verification prior to customer turnover.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues during installation and service calls.
- Document installation changes, service work, and project completion details accurately.
- Communicate project status, material needs, and potential issues with project managers and customers.
- Provide end-user training on system operation as needed.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and job site regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience installing or servicing commercial audio visual or low-voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of commercial AV equipment and installation practices.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience terminating and testing structured cabling.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including IP addressing and network connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening, where applicable.
- Associate degree or technical training in electronics, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience with commercial AV manufacturers such as Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, Logitech, Poly, or Cisco.
- CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification.
- Experience programming or commissioning AV control systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and other unified communications platforms.
- Experience working on construction projects alongside electrical and low-voltage contractors.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
