Electrical Safety Officer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Officer to support one of our clients in Los Alamosd. This position serves as the primary subject matter expert for electrical safety, ensuring compliance with DOE, OSHA, NFPA, and IEEE standards while supporting construction, maintenance, and operational activities across the laboratory. The ideal candidate has a strong electrical engineering or electrical safety background, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience developing and implementing electrical safe work practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical safety guidance and compliance.
• Partner with project managers, engineers, work planners, craft personnel, and field teams to implement electrical safe work practices.
• Conduct electrical incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions.
• Perform workplace inspections and electrical hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
• Review Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for compliance.
• Develop and maintain electrical safety policies, procedures, standards, and technical guidance.
• Support engineers and technical staff in resolving complex electrical safety and engineering issues.
• Participate in evaluations of electrical equipment, systems, and services to ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
• Perform electrical severity calculations and support reporting of electrical incidents.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of electrical safety codes, standards, and specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• 7 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, electrical safety, industrial safety, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q Clearance.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards, including:
• NFPA 70E
• OSHA electrical safety requirements
• IEEE standards
• National Electrical Code (NEC)
• Experience supporting low-voltage AC and DC electrical systems.
• Experience conducting electrical hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
• Strong knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safe work practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to successfully complete Radiological Worker II Training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting DOE, national laboratories, nuclear, industrial, or large construction environments.
• Experience developing electrical safety policies, procedures, and engineering standards.
• Knowledge of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and DOE work planning processes.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP), or other relevant certifications are a plus.
