Assistant Controller

An established construction company is looking for an Assistant Controller to lead its accounting team and oversee payroll, AP, and financial reporting operations. This is a key leadership role supporting both day-to-day functions and long-term financial strategy.

What You'll Do:

• Lead and support an accounting team of 7 staff
• Oversee weekly office and field payroll, including union payroll and rate updates
• Prepare and file quarterly payroll tax returns, W-2s, and handle payroll audits
• Review and approve all vendor payables and resolve issues quickly
• Ensure timely processing of payables to meet quarterly closing deadlines
• Assist with quarterly and annual financial statements and GL entries
• Coordinate with outside CPA firm on year-end audits and filings (EEOC-1, INDOT rating report, etc.)
• Manage IT vendor on system updates, maintenance tasks, and equipment replacement

What We're Looking For:

• Experience in construction accounting, especially union payroll
• Strong understanding of payroll, AP, and financial reporting
• Comfortable managing multiple priorities and external partners
• CPA or actively working toward certification (required)
• Organized, proactive, and great with both numbers and people

Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
