Primary Function
Supports product development teams by creating high-quality physical models and prototypes. This role focuses on creative development while applying knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, and decoration techniques. It collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to deliver prototypes for presentations, reviews, licensing approvals, and retail showcases, while ensuring protection of sensitive intellectual property.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create a wide variety of physical models and prototypes using modern fabrication technologies
- Collaborate with development, design, sculpting, marketing, and external partners
- Manage external vendors by assigning work, monitoring quality, cost, and timelines
- Ensure timely delivery of prototypes that meet internal and licensing partner expectations
- Pack, ship, and track prototypes throughout the development lifecycle
- Operate and utilize tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC equipment, and standard shop tools
- Apply finishing techniques including spray and hand painting
- Support multiple brands and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Communicate project status and priorities clearly across teams
- Support presentations, concept reviews, licensor meetings, and retailer showcases
- Ensure proper handling and protection of sensitive intellectual property
- Assist with shows and events, including potential domestic and international trav
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong passion for physical model-making and prototyping
- Proficiency with 3D development technologies and industry-standard software
- Hands-on experience with fabrication tools and finishing techniques
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and product development workflows
- Experience coordinating with external vendors and managing timelines, cost, and quality
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail, especially with aesthetic and component accuracy
- Organizational skills for tracking prototypes and ensuring secure handling of materials
- Ability to work with sensitive intellectual property responsibly
Education & Experience
- High school diploma combined with post-secondary training, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Preferred certifications or vocational training in CAD software, machining, woodworking, or 3D printing
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Industrial Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, Sculpture, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in prototyping and physical model creation
- Background supporting consumer product development processes
- Familiarity with development milestones and prototype applications (e.g., licensor samples, photo samples, marketing assets)
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and delivering projects on schedule
- Exposure to modern prototyping technologies and tools (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, etc.)
- Experience managing or coordinating work across vendors and internal teams
Salary : $30 - $35
