Position Summary
The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (EM NP) provides comprehensive, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients presenting to the emergency department. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages acute and chronic medical conditions across the lifespan in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform focused history and physical examinations for patients presenting with emergent and urgent medical conditions.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and EKGs.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
- Perform and assist with emergency procedures such as suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, intubation, and wound care.
- Prescribe medications and therapies within the scope of practice and hospital protocols.
- Collaborate with attending physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Triage and prioritize patient care according to acuity.
- Document all encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification: National certification as an Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner (ACNP, FNP, or ENP).
- Licensure: Current and unrestricted RN and APRN license in [state].
- Experience: Minimum of [1–3] years of experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or critical care preferred.
- Certifications: Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS
