What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Team Sledd Convenience Distributor?
The ideal candidate is an experienced Accounting Manager or former Controller-level professional who is very hands-on with data and related transformation work, who likes improving processes, and who is comfortable working across systems and pulling data together. You will be in the GL every day, working across our operational ERP system that runs the business, the Sage 300 accounting system that runs AP and GL, Paycom payroll, and Stonefield Query reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the primary monthly JEs for sales, COGS, customer and vendor rebate accruals, OPEX accruals, reserves, and contingencies.
- Review the monthly close package - accruals, complex JEs, reconciliations for higher-risk accounts .(deferred revenue, prepaids, accrued comp, intangibles, equity).
- Heavy involvement in the chart of accounts, accounting policies, and related governance.
- Become a power user of our SLS ERP system - reports, exports, and the data transformations that feed Sage 300; partner with the Group Controller, Accounting Manager and CFO and IT to automate report delivery into the accounting process.
- Become a Sage 300 power user, including the mapping structure that drives the financial statements and AMCON parent-reporting roll-ups.
- Become a Stonefield Query power user for queries against the Sage 300 system.
- Partner with the Group Controller on the external audit relationship - PBC list, schedule prep, auditor Q&A.
- Run the bi-weekly Paycom payroll process.
- Assist in driving system and process improvement initiatives to simplify, streamline, and automate the meaningful process flows within accounting, including monthly JEs.
- Make heavy practical use of Al tools and agents (Claude Cowork and similar) plus RPA tools (UiPath or comparable) where they materially reduce manual work.
- Work closely with the Accounting Manager in all areas of Accounting including: end-to-end monthly close execution, bank reconciliations for primary operating accounts, wire/ACH initiation and approval (with proper segregation of duties), ERP super-user functions and critical system access, parent reporting submission mechanics, and payroll posting and reconciliation.

- Experience with both manual and electronic accounting processes - and a track record of improving accounting processes
- Comfort working in a small, hands-on accounting team where you do the work yourself, not just review it
