Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to ensure Health & Safety compliance at all THS facilities, including base camps and managed properties. In this critical role, you will oversee organizational compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and keep abreast of relevant changes to them. The EH&S Specialist will also manage and support projects, conduct and/or support incident investigations, and verify that appropriate measures are taken to eliminate incident recurrences. A portion of this role will oversee subcontractor activities. Responsibilities also include developing a full H&S education program and conducting training.
Essential Position Functions
Manage Emergency Response
• Manage an Emergency Response Team, in tight collaboration with Operations, Site leaders and Property Managers.
• Ensure that appropriate and timely communication methods and systems (including digital) are filled out for emergency response and incident reports.
• Inform THS management of areas of non-compliance with local, state and federal laws, in a timely manner and recommend solutions.
Inspect Sites and Liaise with external auditors
• Provide daily /weekly onsite support to all site leadership to ensure safe practices and compliance. Onsite locations are not limited to Texas.
• Collaborate with sites leadership to conduct facilities audits.
• Inspect equipment & structures at sites and create detailed reports for follow-up and proper closure.
• Be the liaison for external auditors, support/manage resolutions of issues, and communicate about actions taken, as appropriate.
• Engage with the fire department, electrical and mechanical subcontractors, construction workers, to improve H&S conditions and eliminate risks as appropriate.
Develop and enforce a Culture of Safety
• Manage a Zero Harm program.
• Create H&S Safety procedures and conduct training.
• Identify and reports deviations from H&S policies and procedures.
• Conduct in person and online training, to increase the level of competency and knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant H&S standards across all THS sites.
• Lead Safety Committee, participate in Safety huddles, document and track actions.
Conduct Investigations
• Document and report any work-related injuries or near-miss incidents.
• Manage or support incident reporting and investigations, ensuring proper root cause analysis.
• Audit H&S incidents countermeasures to validate effectiveness.
• Participate in regular meetings with Operations, Site Leadership and Property Managers, to discuss H&S incidents, investigations, and actions taken.
• Be a critical resource in the management of business continuity, from an H&S perspective.
Manage Safety Documentation
• Work with Human Resources to ensure safety risks documentation and reports are tracked accurately and real time.
• Submit OSHA reports and other formal documentation to external agencies, as needed.
• Create and revise Safety Plans, Job Safety Assessments, and others, in compliance with a mature Safety program.
Any other H&S duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a successful EH&S program implementation.
• Demonstrated experience with Military Construction and/or Facilities Management.
• Appropriate certifications: OSHA 500, first aid and CPR.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Minimum 3 years project management experience in a Distributed Workforce environment.
• Ability to investigate, solve problems and lead situational and behavioral changes.
• Ability to identify critical matters, plan and prioritize work activities accordingly.
• Experience with questioning activities while establishing and maintaining partnerships and teamwork.
• Ability to navigate various construction and operating sites, including climbing ladders, stairs, roofs, and uneven terrain.
• Solid knowledge of construction principles, plans, procedures, scheduling, and testing.
• Ability to travel 25% of the time or more with possible overnights stays.
• Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
• Experience with Safety platforms is preferred.
• Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
Reporting Structure:
• The Enterprise Auditor will report directly to VP Operational Excellence.
FLSA Status:
• This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
