Job Summary

Description: Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the After School Mentor will develop and implement academic and enrichment activities for groups of 20 or more students in grades TK-8 who participate in the after-school program. After School Mentor may also collaborate with other school staff to assist students in improving academic skills and reaching performance goals.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with school-aged children in an organized setting preferably. License or Certificate: Valid Driver's License

Prepare for classroom or learning lab programs and special assignments. Organize materials and supplies to facilitate use by students. Offer positive feedback and alternatives. Clean up work areas following projects. Assist students in improving academic skills and reaching performance goals in reading, spelling, math, occupational, and other subjects. ? Establish cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults. Assist and guide students by appropriate role modeling, emotional support, patience, and a friendly, engaging attitude. Assist in maintaining order among students in the program. Supervise student behavior in the classroom, school grounds, gathering areas, field trips, and special events. Accompany students frequently moving locations. Observe, monitor, and control the behavior of students by reactively using appropriate discipline in accordance with their grade level. Report student academic, behavior progress and performance to Site Coordinator. Work with the Site Coordinator to prepare materials that offer an alternative approach to facilitate student learning. Confer as needed with the Site Coordinator concerning student needs. Maintain a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment that supports learning
