Iowa Valley CSD is based out of Marengo, IA, located 10 minutes north of I-80 and approx. 30 miles west of the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor.
The ideal candidate would love kids and be willing to step in on a moments notice to keep the school day running smoothly.
A substitute teacher provides temporary instruction & supervision in a regular teacher's absence by following lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring student safety and learning continues.
Key duties include implementing lesson plans, taking attendance, enforcing school rules, supervising students outside of class, and communicating with school staff. A substitute's role requires flexibility, strong classroom management, and the ability to adapt to different subjects and grade levels.
Core responsibilities
- Instruction: Follow the absent teacher's lesson plans to deliver instruction and guide students through activities and assignments.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, positive, and orderly learning environment by enforcing school policies and managing student behavior.
- Supervision: Supervise students in the classroom, as well as during non-instructional times like lunch, recess, and passing periods.
- Record Keeping: Take attendance and keep records of classroom activities, disciplinary actions, and student progress to report back to the regular teacher.
Additional duties
- Communication: Communicate with other school staff, administrators, and sometimes parents about any issues or student progress.
- Adaptability: Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of different students and be prepared to teach a variety of subjects if necessary.
- Administrative tasks: Complete administrative tasks as required by the school, such as collecting papers and ensuring the classroom is left in an orderly state.
- Professionalism: Act professionally at all times, follow school rules, and serve as a positive role model for students.
